L-3 Communications ESSCO Installs 68-Foot-Diameter Space Frame Radome with Gore-Tex Membranes for Kwajalein Range Services
The following photos depict some of the carefully planned steps required to remove the existing 22-year-old radome and replace it with an ESSCO 68-foot-diameter metal space frame radome with Gore-Tex membranes. This effort was performed in late 2003 as part of the Millimeter Wave (MMW) Radar Replacement Radome Program for Kwajalein Range Services at the Kwajalein Atoll/Reagan Test Site. The project was completed ahead of schedule, and throughout the installation sequence the antenna was never exposed overnight and exposed only briefly during the day.
